CPC Introduces Debt-Free College Act

March 22, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ), joined outside organizations, activists, and other CPC leaders in applauding the introduction of the Debt-Free College Act. The act was cosponsored by 23 Members of the CPC in the House and its Senate companion bill was introduced by Senator Schatz cosponsored by Senators Warren, Gillibrand, Booker, Harris, Merkley, Blumenthal, Baldwin, and Brown. The act was formally endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and multiple national organizations, teachers' unions, and think tanks.

Today, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), and CPC Peace and Security Taskforce Chair Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), issued a statement urging Members of the U.S. Senate to reject President Trump's controversial nominees to the State Department and CIA. President Trump announced his plans to nominate CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. He also proposed nominating highly controversial CIA Deputy Director, Gina Haspel, as the new Director of the CIA.

CPC Statement on S. 2155: The Bank Lobbyist Act

Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) released the following statement on S. 2155, the so-called "Bank Lobbyist Act," which is being considered on the Senate Floor this week. S. 2155 would significantly weaken the landmark Dodd-Frank reforms created in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis and, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, make it more likely that the biggest banks in America could collapse and require another taxpayer-funded bailout.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs, Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), joined constitutional authorities, activists, and other CPC leaders in applauding Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT) for their introduction of a joint resolution to end the illegal U.S. war alongside Saudi Arabia against Yemen's Houthis. The Senators' joint resolution closely parallels bipartisan House resolution H. Con. Res. 81, introduced in September 2017 by CPC Vice Chair Ro Khanna, CPC Co-Chair Mark Pocan, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Walter B. Jones (R-NC). H. Con. Res. 81, which invokes the War Powers Resolution of 1973 to remove U.S. forces from unauthorized hostilities, was co-sponsored by 38 CPC Members and was endorsed by the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
