Washington, D.C. — Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar (TX-35) issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s crypto-focused dinners—one this Monday evening benefiting his super PAC, and one on May 22nd hosting large investors in the Trump family memecoin:

“Donald Trump is taking corruption to a disgusting new level. By selling VIP entry to the White House to the top 25 buyers of his own memecoin, Trump is explicitly auctioning political access to the highest bidder. The Trump family’s dinners for crypto investors who personally enrich them aren’t just sleazy—they are a public invitation to special interests and foreign actors seeking to influence the President. That’s unacceptable and wildly unconstitutional.

“Progressives support efforts by Senate Democrats to stop this kind of grift by barring presidents, vice presidents, senior officials, members of Congress, and their families from profiting off crypto deals. This must be a wake-up call to Congress that the White House is being auctioned off not only to campaign contributors but to those who directly put money in Trump’s and his family’s pockets. Democrats must unite to put an end to big money in politics and stop Trump’s corruption—whether it’s through shady dinners, sweetheart deals with foreign crypto firms, or private jets from Qatar.”
