WASHINGTON, DC– Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs made the following statement after US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced a vote on the Senate “health care” bill will be delayed until after the July 4th recess.
"Republicans in Congress turned their backs on the American people when they crafted this 'cold-hearted' bill behind closed doors. Now, Senate Republicans are facing the reality that their bill is massively unpopular. Not only will it strip 22 million people of their health insurance, but millions will have to pay more for less coverage."
"Senate Republicans' attempt to rush through this drastic dismantling of the American health care system has been appalling. This delay will give the American people time to learn about the serious harm it will cause. The Congressional Progressive Caucus will continue to stand with those who are at risk of losing their Medicaid, prescription drug coverage, maternity care, and more. Republicans will undoubtedly try to find a way in the coming weeks to give billions of tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy at the expense of older Americans and low-income families and we are ready to fight every new effort to pass this dangerous bill.”
