WASHINGTON — Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar (TX-35), Deputy Chair Ilhan Omar (MN-05), and Whip Jesus “Chuy” García (IL-04) issued the following statement regarding the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and civilian deaths from starvation:
“We condemn the Israeli government’s starvation of Gaza’s population, now reaching catastrophic levels due to a three-month, near-total siege. Children are dying of hunger while 6,000 trucks with food wait a few miles away. The Israeli military and U.S. contractors have shot dead hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza waiting for the trickle of aid allowed in by Israel. This is horrifying and must end immediately.
“As mass famine rapidly approaches, real solutions are needed—not airdrops of food, day-long ‘tactical’ pauses, or militarized aid distribution. Israel must allow unfettered entry to legitimate aid agencies, led by the UN, to immediately flood Gaza with humanitarian support and prevent countless more children from starving to death. We demand that Trump use U.S. leverage to ensure that Israel fully restores international aid access to Gaza. It is not too late to save millions of lives. We need a lasting peace in the region, not more starvation and death.”
