Washington, D.C.- Today, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) released the following statement to celebrate National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month:

“In 1969, the Stonewall Riots spurred a movement for fair treatment and equality for all members of the LGBTQ community. Nearly 50 years later, we are proud to celebrate Pride Month with the LGBTQ community on a day that marks so many milestones—including the third anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which deemed same-sex marriage as a constitutionally-protected right.

“However, the journey to full equality doesn’t end with marriage. From President Trump’s ban on transgender military personnel, to endorsing discrimination against LGBTQ people, we must continue to refute this administration’s intolerance and hatred. As we bring Pride Month to a close, we must transition our energy from the thousands of Pride parades to the critical fight to protect and preserve the rights and dignity of all members of the LGBTQ community.

“We can only have true pride in our country when our policies reflect a commitment to treating all people, regardless of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity, with respect and dignity. The Congressional Progressive Caucus will continue to fight for these values and encourages Congressional Republicans to support the Equality Act to ensure civil rights protections for all.”
