Washington, D.C. – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the budget caps proposal:
“We are pleased that leadership has decided to postpone floor consideration of a budget caps agreement until we can address some of the persistent and deep-seated concerns of progressives. The outcome today allows us to develop a stronger proposal that fulfills our promise to invest in communities and families.
“We now have an opportunity to go back to the drawing board and draft an agreement that can receive the enthusiastic support of the entire Democratic Caucus. Progressives will continue to seek equality in outlays between excessive Pentagon spending and critical domestic priorities, and end decades of harmful austerity imposed on our communities.”
