WASHINGTON – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today after Congress passed a Continuing Resolution to fund the government current spending levels through December 11, 2015.

“With today’s vote, House Republicans just bought themselves 10 weeks to get their house in order. When that clock runs out, Congress must create a budget for the rest of the fiscal year that invests in America, not one that continues the cuts that will harm our education system, veterans, and working families. A budget that continues sequestration funding levels only prolongs harmful cuts – it cannot be considered a clean budget compromise. Allowing those cuts to continue is irresponsible and a nonstarter – period. By reversing the devastating effects of the sequester, we can gain hundreds of thousands of jobs and grow our economy.

“The dysfunctional Republican leadership has governed by crisis for five years now. It is time to show real leadership and draft a budget that invests in our country. Anything short of that is a failure for the American people.”
