WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), and First Vice Chair Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) issued the following statement after Andy Puzder withdrew his nomination for Secretary of Labor.
"Thanks to the tireless work of activists and workers around the country, Andy Puzder will not have the opportunity to use the Department of Labor to attack working families. Puzder’s track record should have disqualified him from the start. He does not believe in a minimum wage; he sought to destroy labor protections; and argued for rolling back the rights that working Americans– including his own employees– depend on every day. Someone who believes it’s okay to take home millions of dollars while paying his employees poverty wages has no business running the Department of Labor.
“This is a victory for the labor movement and all working Americans. We demand nothing less than a Labor Secretary who actually works for the interests of workers, not CEOs. This should not be too much to ask of Republicans. We urge President Trump to nominate a fair and experienced candidate, who will stand up for workers, fight for a living wage, and support the right to unionize.”
