WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) released the following statement regarding Steve Bannon’s ousting at the White House.

“Steve Bannon’s departure from the White House is a direct result of the extraordinary groundswell of pressure from millions of progressives across the country who were outraged by the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville and President Trump’s shocking and disgraceful response.

“However, make no mistake, Steve Bannon’s ouster does not change the normalization of hate and hate groups for which President Trump and the Republicans are responsible. Administration officials such as Stephen Miller and Sebastian Gorka must also be removed, and racist law-enforcement officials such as Sherriff Arpaio must face justice for their crimes rather than receive a presidential pardon.

“Further, Speaker Ryan must join Democrats in censuring President Trump for his outrageous remarks and continued embrace of white supremacist and white nationalist groups. He must also remove Confederate statues from the U.S. Capitol and call on officials across the country to take down monuments that celebrate white supremacy.”
