Washington, D.C. -- Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 748, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act:
“Congress should be encouraging employers who offer high quality health insurance plans, not penalizing them. Already, millions of Americans are saddled with low-quality, high deductible plans that price essential care out of reach. Imposing a punitive tax on the employers who do the right thing and offer high quality insurance would have one simple result – greater cost-shifting to workers and their families.
“Repealing this tax is an important step towards preserving and expanding quality health care for all families. We thank Congressman Joe Courtney for working with the Progressive Caucus, and members on both sides of the aisle, to pass this important fix.”
