Washington, D.C. — Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar (TX-35) issued the below statement applauding the reintroduction of the Medicare for All Act, led by CPC co-founder Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), CPC Chair Emeritus Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), and CPC member Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-12):
“While Big Pharma and insurance companies raked in obscene profits last year, half a million people went bankrupt trying to pay for care—and 60,000 died because they couldn’t afford a doctor in the first place. The Congressional Progressive Caucus has long championed the idea that health care is a human right, not a privilege, and Medicare for All will transform our corrupt, profit-driven health system and put every American’s health first. While the GOP wages war on Medicaid, progressives will continue to fight to guarantee care for all people, no matter income.”
Medicare for All would provide comprehensive health care to every American with no premiums, co-payments or deductibles while expanding benefits to include dental, hearing, and vision care. Every American would have the freedom to choose their doctor without endless paperwork or fighting their insurance company. Medicare for All would save $650 billion a year in healthcare spending and save 68,000 lives annually.
The Medicare for All Act has 102 additional cosponsors in the House and 15 in the Senate.
