Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva and Keith Ellison, co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), released the following statement after House Republicans introduced a three-week continuing budget resolution:
“The failure of Washington Republicans to perform the most basic of their job duties, creating a budget, is further proof that they cannot be trusted to govern. The Republican ‘one-week-at-a-time’ scheme of perpetual uncertainty threatens our economic recovery and throws more Americans off the job. Instead of finding a reasonable compromise with willing Democrats, Republicans continue to push this extreme right wing attack on America’s working families, bringing our nation to the brink of shutdown nearly every week.”
“The Republican War on Working Families destroys jobs and job creation while doing nothing to cut spending on special interests. We are committed to smart budgeting that cuts spending on Wall Street and big oil companies who are gouging consumers, while investing in jobs for the middle class. We call on Republicans to listen to the American People and reduce the deficit by putting America back to work.”
