Washington, D.C. – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the FY2021 Trump Budget:

“President Trump’s proposed budget is an insult to working people across the country. We often say that budgets are moral documents – and this budget clearly shows a complete absence of empathy and decency in this White House.

“This budget is remarkable for its unabashed cruelty. Only a morally bankrupt administration would propose cutting $182 billion from food stamps over 10 years while wasting billions on an offensive and harmful border wall, or steal $900 billion from Medicaid over the next decade while extending massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations. This budget also doubles down on wasteful military spending, funneling a record $741.5 billion to the Pentagon, while simultaneously slashing student loan programs, cutting the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and gutting environmental protections.

“Working families, students, seniors, people with disabilities , and the poor would all suffer under this budget. It makes it clear – in ink and on paper – that defense contractors, billionaires and big donors will always come first in the Trump White House. At the Progressive Caucus, we stand with the American people in rejecting this heartless budget.”
