Washington, D.C. – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act:

“Since its inception, the internet has been an open platform for free expression and innovation. But the 2017 FCC decision to overturn net neutrality put all of this at risk, consolidating power in the hands of a few wealthy corporations. Without net neutrality, online consumers are left at the mercy of big corporations and special interests.

“This week’s vote would not have been possible without the advocacy of millions of Americans who fought to save the free and open internet. The passage of the Save the Net Act is the culmination of a years-long Congressional campaign spearheaded by the Progressive Caucus, and represents a victory for activists, organizers, innovators, small business owners, and everyday families. We urge the Senate to take up this critical bill to restore a level playing field online.”
