Washington, D.C.– Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) released the following statement responding to the release of the proposed Republican tax plan.
“President Trump's tax plan is nothing but an enormous transfer of wealth to the richest Americans at the expense of our country and working families. It does nothing to fix a tax system riddled with loopholes that only benefit those at the top. Instead, it makes it worse. So, once again the rich get richer and working Americans continue to pick up the tab. And with trillions more going to the wealthy and huge corporations, Republicans will continue to propose slashing Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
“This is not a reform plan. It is an attack on the middle class, our education system, and our ability to have a vibrant future. Make no mistake, the money will not trickle down. The American people won't settle for scraps. We will vigorously oppose this unfair giveaway and in the coming days we will work to inject fairness into this conversation. It is time to end a system rigged in favor of Wall Street, the fossil fuel industry and CEOs while millions of Americans continue to struggle.”
