WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the federal court decision blocking the Trump Administration’s decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
“Political ploys, like questioning citizenship and immigration status, have no place in the census. The U.S. Census is critical to our democracy and we applaud U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman for upholding the law and checking this administration’s unlawful and harmful policy practices that suppress participation.
“Instead of creating barriers that limit participation in the census, we should be breaking them down. Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus will continue to work for an open, accurate, and adequately resourced census process to ensure that every single person is counted, regardless of their immigration status.”
