Washington, D.C. — The Co-Chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), released the following statement on the crisis in Bolivia:

“We are gravely concerned by the deteriorating human rights situation in Bolivia. The disproportionate use of force against protestors and indigenous Bolivians is unacceptable and undermines Bolivians’ fundamental rights to peaceful protest and assembly. The de facto government must immediately rescind the decree giving the military excessively broad discretion to use force against protestors. We strongly support efforts by the United Nations to work toward a peaceful, negotiated solution to the crisis and to move toward inclusive, free, and fair elections.”
