Representatives Brad Sherman, Judy Chu, Steny Hoyer, and Mark Pocan introduced the Direct File Act, which would codify the IRS Direct File Program, which was stopped by the Trump Administration. This bill directs the IRS to establish and operate a free online tax preparation and filing program and prohibits the IRS from entering into any agreements that restrict its ability to provide free online tax preparation or filing services.
