Washington, D.C. – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement following the passage of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act:

“Today is a big day for Congress and this nation. After years of dedicated organizing across the country, the U.S. House of Representatives has taken long overdue action to protect 2.5 million immigrants who call this nation home. The passage of the American Dream and Promise Act – the most progressive immigration bill to ever pass Congress – is a powerful recognition of the millions of Dreamers and TPS and DED recipients who have built their lives here and are American in every way except on paper.

“Make no mistake: this is only the beginning of our fight. The Congressional Progressive Caucus will continue to fight for humane immigration policies and stand up to the Trump Administration and others who exploit xenophobia and hate to criminalize immigrants. Immigrants are a valued part of America’s past, present, and future. Our laws should reflect these contributions and treat immigrant communities with dignity and respect. As we celebrate the passage of the American Dream and Promise Act, we will continue to fight for the millions of other immigrant community members and families suffering under our nation’s broken immigration system.”
