Washington, D.C. — Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the new rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services restricting the rights of home health workers to unionize:

“We strongly oppose the new rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that singles out home health workers to deny them their fundamental right to support their union and collectively bargain for retirement and health care benefits. Make no mistake: this is a direct attack on home health workers — disproportionately low-income and minority women — who do the heroic work of caring for seniors and people with disabilities in their own homes. This rule doesn’t just harm home health workers, it will also make it even harder for seniors and those living with disabilities to find the consistent and reliable care they need to stay in their homes.

“At the Congressional Progressive Caucus, we will continue to fight to protect every worker’s right to join a strong union — whether they work in an office, on the floor of a factory, or provide care in a private home. Congress must take immediate action to reverse this rule.”
