Washington, DC – Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement on the passage of the Yemen War Powers Resolution:

“Today, the U.S. House of Representatives took a historic step to end the needless suffering in Yemen and restore congressional oversight on matters of war and peace.

“The war in Yemen is a humanitarian catastrophe. Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed. Millions are living on the brink of famine.  And children, in particular, have borne the brunt of these atrocities – upwards of 85,000 Yemeni children have been killed since the start of the conflict.

“Despite our active participation in this war, Congress has never voted on or authorized U.S. military intervention in Yemen. The passage of the War Powers Resolution today, after a years-long campaign by the Progressive Caucus, signals a major shift in our foreign policy and makes it clear that we will not tolerate U.S. involvement these horrors.

“We urge President Trump to sign this resolution and help us end this war. The people of Yemen deserve peace.”
