Washington, D.C. --Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, released the following statement calling for the resignation or removal of Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta:
“As U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alex Acosta abused his position of trust to shield a known child predator from justice. Instead of working on behalf of survivors and victims, Secretary Acosta betrayed the very individuals he was charged with protecting.
“Secretary Acosta’s role in the Epstein child trafficking case is horrific, disgraceful, and should be a disqualifier for public service. The Secretary of Labor is responsible for applying our labor laws and preventing child trafficking. Given his track record, Secretary Acosta cannot be trusted to protect victims and stand up to powerful or well-connected predators.
“Therefore, we call on Secretary Acosta to resign or else be removed from office.”
