Washington, D.C.– Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) released the following statement celebrating the introduction of Rep. Jayapal’s Medicare For All Act of 2019:
“The Medicare For All Act of 2019 is bold, visionary legislation to transform our health care system and ensure that all Americans – regardless of race, zip-code or income level – have access to quality treatment and care. In the richest nation on Earth, it’s a disgrace that millions of families are uninsured, and millions more have to make impossible choices between putting food on the table or affording lifesaving medicine.
“It’s long past time that Congress recognized health care as a fundamental human right for all people – instead of a luxury for the wealthiest among us. We look forward to holding hearings on this groundbreaking legislation and building a health care system that prioritizes people over profits.”
The Medicare for All Act of 2019 improves and expands the overwhelmingly successful and popular Medicare program, so that every person living in the United States has guaranteed access to health care with comprehensive benefits including dental, vision, long-term care, reproductive health care and prescription drugs. More than 90% of Progressive Caucus members have cosponsored the Medicare For All Act of 2019.
