WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressional Progressive Caucus Co- Chairs Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), and First Vice Chair Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) made the following statement today after President Trump released his tax reform proposal.

“What President Trump proposed today is nothing more than a giveaway to the wealthy and corporations at the expense of families, communities and the economy. It’s failed trickle-down economics on steroids, and it’s the opposite of what the American people need. Cutting taxes for the wealthy and big corporations forces the middle class to pay more. Republicans may want to repeat their mistakes of the past, but the American people don’t.”

“Working families need a tax plan that raises revenue and increases fairness. It’s time to end the rigged system once and for all. Next week, the CPC will unveil the People’s Budget – a vision for our country that prioritizes the American people and stands in stark contrast to Republican attempts to expand corporate giveaways. Our budget includes a proposal for a fair tax system that benefits working families and the middle class. Unlike President Trump’s proposal, the CPC’s plan will require corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share so we can expand opportunity and grow our economy by making critical investments in our communities, including updating our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools. It’s time for a tax system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.”
