Washington, DC – Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Co-Chairs Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Keith Ellison (D-MN), along with CPC First-Vice Chair Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI), have released the following statement on grassroots support for the People’s Budget:

“Less than one week after we formally announced The People’s Budget, more than 150,000 Americans have signed petitions in support and 47 groups representing millions of people across this country have endorsed it. Their voices are as vital in promoting this budget as they were in shaping it through feedback and suggestions that our caucus took to heart.

“Our budget includes a $1 trillion dollar investment to fix our crumbling roads and bridges. It also allots $765 million to replace the water pipes in Flint, Michigan, and provides that community with needed health and education services. Nearly 6,000 members of faith communities and their leaders have signed a letter to Congress urging their representatives to support The People’s Budget and invest in Flint so families can have access to clean water and support for those exposed to lead.

“While our budget gains support every day, House Republicans are unable to get their own members to sign off on their budget. Hard working Americans need a budget that puts their needs ahead of big corporations and special interests. That’s what The People’s Budget does – ensuring every family struggling to make ends meet has a fair shot at the American Dream.”
