Washington, D.C. – Members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), including Co-Chairs Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) and Keith Ellison (D-MN), are supporting community leaders across the country next week for events marking Resolutions Week, a nationwide effort to get money out of politics. Throughout the week, officials will introduce local resolutions supporting a constitutional amendment to overturn the infamous Citizens United v. FEC Supreme Court decision, which let corporations and wealthy individuals spend unlimited money on political campaign advertisements.

Dozens of  localities have already approved similar resolutions.

More than $63 million was spent in the Recent Wisconsin recall election, much of it from out of state, including $24 million from outside groups.

Since the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling, Super PACs and corporations have spent record amounts of money in elections nationwide. Corporate spending soared during the 2010 election cycle to $294 million, 427 percent over the previous mid-term elections in 2006.

Twenty-five events across the country have already been planned.
