Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Co-Chairs Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ)and Keith Ellison (D-MN) today released the following statement after the House voted down a bill to keep the government funded through November 18, 2011:
“Today, we stood with the American people and rejected yet another Republican proposal that will kill thousands of jobs. Americans won’t stand for Republican politicians that refuse to lift a finger to help flood victims unless they can put thousands of Americans out of work in return. At no point in our history has one party attempted to hold disaster funds hostage, and it is simply unconscionable.
“Democrat or Republican, we are all Americans and when our fellow Americans are hurting, we step up and help out. The American people need good jobs now. It’s time to put the American people first and put politics aside.”
