“Juan Orlando Hernández’s return to Honduras marks a new chapter in Trump’s corruption and disregard for the rule of law, after his presidential pardon allowed the convicted narcotrafficker and former authoritarian ruler to return to Honduras.

“This drug kingpin’s arrival as a free man exposes the hypocrisy of Trump’s so-called ‘war on narcoterrorism.’ The Trump Administration has used this pretext to kill hundreds of people through extrajudicial airstrikes without providing due process or evidence of wrongdoing—all while empowering narcotraffickers like Hernández.

“Trump’s handpicked, rightwing presidential candidate Nasry Asfura narrowly won the Honduran presidency in December after blatant election interference by the White House, creating conditions for impunity. But Honduras’s judiciary should not bow to any political pressure and should instead move forward in the corruption case against Hernández to provide justice for his many victims.

Medicare for All would expand the Medicare program to provide comprehensive health care to every American with no premiums, no co-payments, and no deductibles. It would also expand Medicare to include dental, hearing, and vision care, and it would give every American the freedom to choose their doctors without interference from insurance companies. The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that Medicare for All would save the American healthcare system $650 billion a year. Researchers at Yale University have also estimated that the legislation would save 68,000 lives a year.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Announces Official Position Against National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) voted to adopt an official position to oppose the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027 in its current form. This week, House Republicans attempted to attach a sweeping voter suppression measure, the SAVE America Act, to the NDAA.

The Republican-led NDAA authorizes an unprecedented $1.15 trillion base budget in the wake of Trump and Congressional Republicans voting to kick 15 million Americans off their health care. In April, President Trump said “it’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare” because “we’re fighting wars.” Despite the Pentagon never having passed an audit, this NDAA authorizes wasteful weapons systems and multi-billion-dollar vanity projects including new “Trump-class” battleships and the Golden Dome.

As drafted, the NDAA also does nothing to prohibit Trump from continuing to carry out illegal wars, a danger made clear by U.S. military operations against Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, as well as civilian vessels in Western Hemisphere, where at least 210 individuals have been killed in extrajudicial strikes.

In addition, the NDAA does not stop Trump from using the Pentagon to enrich his own family. Instances of self-dealing include $50 billion in new or expanded contracts for donors to Trump’s White House ballroom, including Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen, and Palantir. Trump also purchased $1 million in stock of Dell Computers before the Pentagon announced a $9.7 billion deal with the company. And his son, Donald Trump Jr., advises and owns stock in at least two firms awarded lucrative military contracts while he helped screen candidates for top positions at the Pentagon.

Leaders of CPC, CBC, CHC, CAPAC Introduce Resolution Calling For Reforms To Protect Democracy

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) announced a new House resolution calling for reforms to restore voting rights in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais.

The resolution calls for the House to adopt legislation to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and, in the next pro-democracy governing moment, the elimination of the 60-vote threshold in the Senate and enactment of structural change to the Supreme Court.

The resolution also raises the alarm about a years-long campaign by the Supreme Court’s rightwing majority to undermine minority representation nationwide and highlights the threat that the Court’s far-right majority poses to Congressional efforts to advance workers’ rights, curb executive power, and combat corruption.

The resolution is co-led by CPC Chair Greg Casar (TX-35), CBC Chair Yvette Clarke (NY-9), CHC Chair Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), CAPAC Chair Grace Meng (NY-6), and cosponsored by ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Hank Johnson (GA-4).

Democrats have proposed a variety of structural changes to the Supreme Court including: establishing a binding code of judicial ethics for Supreme Court Justices, imposing the $50 Congressional gift ban on Supreme Court Justices, reform of the shadow docket and Certiorari process, 18-year term limits for Supreme Court Justices, and expanding the size of the Supreme Court to match the number of federal judicial circuits.

Congressional Caucuses Urge Corporate America to Defend Voting Rights and Equal Representation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the chairs of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC), Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), Congressional Equality Caucus (CEC), and New Democrat Coalition (NDC) released the following statement urging Corporate America to reaffirm its commitment to voting rights, equal representation, and the democratic principles it has previously pledged to uphold:

“Our Caucuses stand united in support of the Congressional Black Caucus's call for Corporate America to publicly defend voting rights, equal representation, and the democratic principles that form the foundation of our nation.

“In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision in Louisiana v. Callais, Republican-led legislatures and governors across the South have moved swiftly to redraw congressional maps ahead of the November election in a deliberate effort to dilute Black voting strength, weaken Black representation, and roll back decades of hard-won civil rights progress secured through the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“The consequences of this democratic erosion extend far beyond politics. Background

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Chairwoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) and members of the Congressional Black Caucus issued a letter urging Corporate America to defend our nation’s democratic principles and publicly reaffirm its commitment to voting rights and equal representation amid growing attacks on fair representation and Black political and economic power in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais.

Five years ago, more than 200 companies and business organizations publicly declared in a letter to Congress that democracy and equal access to the ballot box were fundamental American values. In that letter, businesses across the United States called for strengthening the Voting Rights Act to “prevent voting discrimination” and ensure that “voters of color who remain the targets of voter suppression have equal and unfettered access to the democratic process.”

As reported in The New York Times, the act was, at the time, “the biggest show of solidarity” by the business community to push back against Republican efforts to enact new election rules in almost every state.

The Congressional Black Caucus sent a letter to those companies—and to additional corporate leaders nationwide—calling on them to reaffirm their stated commitment to democracy, voting rights, and fair representation.

PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS MEMBERS URGE APPLE TO REVERSE IMPENDING CLOSURE OF UNIONIZED BALTIMORE-AREA STORE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Forty members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) wrote to Apple Inc. raising concern about treatment of unionized workers at an Apple store in Towson, Maryland, which has “deeply troubling in its national implications for workers’ rights and the

ability of multi-trillion-dollar corporations to undercut their efforts to collectively bargain for better pay, benefits, and dignity on the job.”

The letter, addressed to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering John Ternus, urges the company to reverse its planned closure of its Towson, Maryland, store, the first of any Apple store workers in the country to unionize. Those unionized workers are “the only Apple store employees who will not be transferred to nearby locations,” write the Members of Congress.

“It certainly appears that Apple has decided to retaliate against the workers at this location for forming a union and collectively bargaining to secure their wages, hours, and working conditions,” the members write. “As Members of Congress, we remind you that these actions would qualify as unfair labor practices, which are illegal as violations of Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act.” That law allows workers to choose their representation and collectively bargain without interference or coercion.

“Should Apple not choose to reverse its decision to leave the Baltimore area, given the national ramifications of that choice,” conclude the lawmakers, “we strongly urge you to reconsider how you will fully support these employees, and assist them in transferring, just as other employees of closing stores are allowed to do.”

Congressional Progressive Caucus Adopts Official Position Opposing Short-Term Extension of Surveillance Law Without Civil Liberties Protections

In response to the passage of repeated short-term authorizations to Section 702 of FISA in which House Republican Leadership squandered the opportunity to negotiate necessary, significant bipartisan guardrails to protect Americans’ civil liberties, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) adopted an official position to oppose extensions of any length to Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) absent significant reforms.

Congress passed two short-term extensions of FISA 702 with the aim of creating time and space for serious negotiations, yet Republican leadership still refuses to commit to votes to codify civil-liberties protections, like ending backdoor searches and data broker loopholes. As the Trump Administration continues to show its stunning disregard for Americans’ privacy and civil liberties, a super-majority of the CPC voted to oppose further short-term extensions to the surveillance law and instead support popular, bipartisan and significant reforms to FISA 702.

Jacobs Set to Introduce 10th War Powers Resolution Wednesday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar released the following statement about Congressional Progressive Caucus introducing a series of War Powers Resolutions to end Trump’s illegal war with Iran:

"While Donald Trump says he doesn't think about how his war has impacted Americans' financial situation,' members of the Progressive Caucus do. Trump's war with Iran has cost thousands of lives and spiked the price of everything from gas to groceries. We will keep holding Republicans in Congress accountable for as long as they enable this reckless, illegal war."

On Thursday, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) introduced a War Powers Resolution. Resolutions have previously been introduced by: Reps. Ro Khanna (CA-17), Jared Huffman (CA-02), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Maxine Dexter (OR-03), John Garamendi (CA-08), Chuy García (IL-04), Becca Balint (VT-AL), Nydia Velázquez (NY-07), and Valerie Foushee (NC-04).
